On June 6, reporters learned from China Railway Eryuan Engineering Group Co., Ltd. that the "High Overload Energy-saving and Environmentally Friendly Intelligent Traction Transformer" and the "Integrated Monitoring and Status Maintenance Management System for Traction Transformers" have been certified by the China Machinery Industry Federation. This is the first traction transformer in China and abroad to use natural ester insulating oil, featuring excellent characteristics such as strong overload capacity, environmental friendliness, and low loss, filling a gap in the electrified railway sector in this field.
The traction transformer is located in the core facility of the railway traction substation and is a core device for high-speed railways and electrified railways, providing continuous power to high-speed trains or electric locomotives, serving as the "heart" of railway transportation. Compared to power system substations and transformers, railway traction transformers have characteristics such as large impact current, strong load fluctuations, and high reliability requirements. Most of the insulating oil used in traction transformers in China's electrified railways is mineral insulating oil, which is a non-renewable resource derived from petroleum. If leakage occurs and is not handled properly, it can cause pollution to the local environment. Additionally, conventional traction transformers face difficulties in improving overload capacity and energy-saving indicators, and have low fire resistance. How to adopt innovative technologies to further enhance the performance of traction transformers in the new era is a challenge.
